Artworks in the //cr/r/t// collection incorporate edited elements from a retro video game (and sometimes multiple games) alongside a stylized, pixelated font to offer vaguely motivational statements plastered over familiar pop culture imagery. Pixel art animations are composed in Aseprite then recaptured from the screen of a Zenith CRT television. Analog glitches are introduced primarily through coaxial cable manipulation.
Nostalgia is often cited as a driving factor in the creation and appreciation of retro-inspired pixel or glitch art. As someone who regularly appropriates and glitches 8- and 16-bit era iconography, I’m almost never interested in the uncritical activation of nostalgic feelings. The goal of my art is not simply to regurgitate previous eras, but to challenge your relationship to an idealized/imaginary past. Glitch art and ROM corruption are interjections against the lie of nostalgia. These are not your fondly-held memories.
