Kyle Flemmer author photo

Kyle Flemmer is a writer, publisher, and digital media artist from Calgary in Treaty 7 territory. He completed an MA in English Literature at the University of Calgary, where he researched digital poetics and worked as a teaching and research assistant. Kyle holds a B.A. Hons. in Western Society & Culture and Creative Writing from Concordia University, where he earned the distinction of Faculty of Arts and Science Scholar in 2016.

Kyle's debut book of poetry, Barcode Poetry, was published in 2021 by The Blasted Tree Publishing Co. His chapbooks have been published in Canada and internationally, most recently Little Songs by No Press and Gourmand by Paper View Books. His work has been anthologized in Best Canadian Poetry 2020 and elsewhere, and has appeared in dozens of print and online literary venues. Kyle has performed for the Calgary Institute for the Humanities, the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and at book launches, open mics, and literary festivals.

In 2014, Kyle founded The Blasted Tree, a small press featuring experimental writing, through which he has published the work of over 100 authors and artists. He is a former Managing Editor of filling Station magazine and worked as a Publishing Assistant at the University of Calgary Press. He has edited collections for the League of Canadian Poets and other small press publishers, consulted for the Alberta Magazine Publishers' Association, and sits on the board of several literary organizations. Kyle is a community builder and has coordinated and participated in literary events and festivals across Canada.
