WikiPoems

WikiPoems cover

WikiPoems was inspired by the N+7 technique popularized by the Oulipo. Each poem begins on the Wikipedia page of a popular and/or notorious CanLit novel, as indicated by its title. The seventh link on the page was located and seven of the surrounding words were copied out (counting the linked word or phrase as one). The seventh link was then clicked, and the operation repeated until the poem was approximately 50 lines long. There are several other constraints determining formatting and word choice (hyperlinked words/phrases appear in bold, for instance). By documenting a sequence of associative connections made possible by hyperlinked reference texts, these poems emulate the intertextual relationships we form with and between works of literature.
